Slag om Salland

In the 19th century Royal Tencate (at that time called Koninklijke Stoomweverij) build a huge factory in the village of Nijverdal, the Netherlands. The reason of that specific village was the easy acces to water from the little river called “de Regge” which ran true it.

When the factory was build plans were drawn to attach de Regge to the bigger main TwenteKanaal. At that time most of the transport was done by flatbed boats. However, due to the quick rise of another main way of transport, the railway, those plan were never executed. ¬†So the factory was build with a 400 mtr long quay, along a 5 meter wide ¬†undeep river…
